Yes! This definitely just happened to me also! Two or three days ago, I had this item of mine go backwards by nearly 60,000.

I uploaded this audio recording to the The Archive's LMA on Sept 5, 2011. I was recommending it for their last round of Staff Picks, which they were seeking. The LMA selected it for Staff Picks, along with 15 or 20 other shows. This item then produced a growing number of download counts that became amazing to me. During the past several weeks, it was getting over 10,000 hits per week. Several other Staff Picks were also generating download counts that high at this time. By last week, this item's counts climbed over 78,000, and it was quickly approaching the 80,000 mark. Then it dropped to 22,000 a couple of days later. This is a confirmed example of what you're referring to.

IA statistics have my uploads numbered at 34. I tend to keep an eye on all of my items, as I have upgraded many of them, and I have plenty of time to do this stuff. Most of my itmes are audio recordings of bands that I taped. None of my other 33 items' download counts seem to have been affected... only the one I have mentioned. It lost 60,000 counts overnight, or 75%. (Béla Fleck and The Flecktones, and Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, taped by Royboy at the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield on July 24, 2011)

I have the feeling that this thing does not work proper in the last few days. I do not expect that the latest submission of mine will draw a massive amount of attention, but 29 downloads ... that hurts:
